I've been making pots/containers for my bonsai trees out of portland cement and sand at ~1:2.5 ratio (respectively), just using sand from the ground that I sift ('sugar sand' is how people refer to it, I live half a mile from the coast in FL so it's basically beach sand as our 'soil')
